Katherine Norland, author of the Poetic Prescriptions series, will launch her newest book, Poetic Prescriptions for Plaguing Problems: Biblical Remedies for When Life Bites on Monday, Oct. 14 with a book talk at the Pasadena Public Library, Central Branch, in the Donald R. Wright Auditorium at 7 p.m.
“These poems reflect my healing journey of 10 years,” says Norland. “I was plagued by doubt, money issues, relationship problems, fear, work-related issues--all coming at me at once.”
For inspiration, Norland drew on the 10 Plagues of the Bible, as well as historical secular ones, such as typhus, bubonic plague, and the Moscow plague of 1771. In addition to locusts, metaphorical roaches run rampant in the Section titled “Place Roach Motels in Every Room.”
“This book is for anyone who has gone to war in a flypaper dress, trying to catch each buzzing ‘pest’ of a problem that keeps them from living the full life that God has in store for them,” says Norland. “It’s time we stop being the victim in our own stories, and use the brains God gave us to get out of those situations.”
The evening will include screening of related video clips, book signings, and a Q&A Discussion.
REVIEW
“A powerful, emotional, and unapologetically open masterpiece…Prescriptions for Plaguing Problems is reality-based spiritual medication…just what the doctor ordered.”
--Wallace Demarria, Actor/Director/Playwright, NAACP Theatre Award Winner
